Boise State got 3 wins from the first place Weber State. Game one was 12-4 win for the Broncos, with Nick Patla getting us off to a good start from the mound throwing a complete game. Nick spread 5 hits around while striking out 7 guys. The offense was lead by Cooper Thomas, Christian Bautista, Angelo Romeo, Joel Perry and Scott “Scooter” Lyness with 2 hits a piece. Game two was much the same with the Broncos pounding out 10 hits in the 9-2 victory. Again Angelo Romeo continued his hot streak with 2 more hits. Nick Patla and Kjell Holmes also had 2 hit games against a much improved Wildcat defense. Angelo Romeo, Taylor Archuleta and Alec Wilson combined to keep Weber State from getting their offense going, holding them to 4 hits while striking out 6. Game 3 was great game to watch as the Broncos jump out to a 6-0 lead, but the Wildcats battle back to tie the game 8-8 in the top of the 6th. Thats when Curtis “Dad” Davidson started the inning with a triple, followed by hits from Rich Hoppe and Angelo Romeo to get the 3 spot in the bottom of the inning. From there Taylor Archulela and Nick Patla took over in relief to shut down them down for the 11-8 win. Rich Hoppe had 4-5 day at the plate, with 2 RBI`s and 2 stolen bases. The Wildcats couldn`t keep Angelo Romeo off the bases this weekend as he went 7-8, with 3 doubles, a triple and 7 RBI`s, he also had a Sac Fly, walk and reach base on a error. Angelo`s work at the plate earned him conference honors as the “Player of the Week”.

The Broncos started conference play with a bang, taking 2 games from interstate rival Idaho State. Nick Patla pitched 5 innings against a very tough hitting Bengal team, leaving the contest in the 5th with a 11-3 lead. Christian Bautista followed up 2 innings of relief pitching in the 11-6 win. Taylor Archuleta lead the charge on offense going 3-4 with 3 RBI`s and Joel Perry piled on with a 2-4 game and 3 RBI`s. Game 2 was much the same, with Kjell Holmes throwing a complete game from the bump. KJ only used 69 pitches to mow down the Bengals in the 7 inning contest. Ryan Sheridan, Curtis (Dad) Davidson and Scott Lyness all had 2 hits to lead the Broncos, but every hitter in the line-up recorded a hit in the 10-3 victory. Game 3 on Sunday was a reversal for the teams as ISU used a good 7 inning outing from their starting pitcher and timely team hits for the 10-2 win.

Broncos Great Start to 2016

The Broncos started their 2016 campaign with a bang, Nick Patla threw a complete 7 inning NO HIT ball game against a Wyoming team that was getting preseason votes for the top 20 rankings. He was a walk in the first inning and a hit batsman in the third away from a perfect game, not another Cowboy touched the bags after the third inning. The Broncos defense was outstanding as Catcher Angelo Romeo threw the base runner out trying to steal second and Ryan Sheridan, Alec Wilson and Scott Lyness teamed up for a snappy 5-4-3 double play in the third. After that Nick settled in and struck out 9 batters to finish off the Cowboys. BSU scraped out 3 runs to back up Nick. Game 2 against another team getting preseason votes was a gem to watch, but the Broncos came up short against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in a 3-2 game. Kjell Holmes pitch a great game against a team who had 10 run the two previous teams they had played in the tournament. K.J. only allowed 4 hits against a tough group of hitters. We just couldn`t get that key hit we needed to win the game several times. Game 3, again against a team receiving pre-season votes was a different story this time as Ryan Sheridian started from the bump holding Santa Barbara to 2 runs, on 2 hits in 5 plus innings as the Broncos pounded out 7 runs of support. Richard Hoppe, Alec Wilson, Angelo Romeo and Nick Patla each had 2 hits to lead the charge in the 7-5 victory. Game 4 had everything in it, big start for the Broncos, rally by Denver to take the lead and then it was time for the Broncos to unlease the bats, and boy they did, 13 hits in a exciting 11-7 win. Cooper Thomas lead the offense with a 3-3 game, 4 runs and 3 stolen bases! Richard Hoppe, Alec Wilson, Angelo Romeo and Curtis (DAD) Davidson each had two hits. Broncos were a little sloppy behind their starter Christian Bautista, but he kept battling and throwing ground balls to keep Denver off balance though 4 plus innings. Then Kjell Holmes came in and totally shut them down, striking out 8 of the 11 guys he faced to slam the door shut! Great Weekend of Bronco Baseball and a special shout out to all the Fans and Parents who traveled in support!

The Broncos donated their time and energy today to help the local food bank sort food. 15 members of the team took a couple hours out of their busy schedule to help out in the community. The staff said it would have taken their small crew 8 -9 hours to complete the task. Since the guys did such a nice job so quickly, we all decided to do it again next week with another big task to help food bank out. Great Job guys!
