Boise State had a solid start to their 2015 season with a 3-1 record at the swing into spring tournament in Mesquite, Nevada. First game against Univ. of California Santa Cruz was a 8-5 victory. The Broncos had a solid pitching performance from Hayden Stauffer who stuck out 5 and allowed only 2 runs. The offense was paced by Cooper Thomas and Richard Hoppe, Cooper was 2-3 with a home run and Richard went 2-4 with a bases loaded triple. Game 2 was a 10-9 win against Univ. of W. Washington, a division champion from last year. Nick Palta was tough from the bump and spread the Viking hits around enough to strand base runners for 5 innings. Marcus Brother came in relief and in the critical 7th shut them down in a tie game. This gave the home team Broncos a chance in the bottom of the inning for the win and Richard Hoppe scored Marcus Brother on a sac. fly for the win. Richard had a big game at the plate with a 3-4 performance and 2 more RBI`s. Tyson Dellasilva chip in 2 hits and Cooper Thomas was on base 5-5 and scored 3 runs. Game 3 was a tough 4-5 extra inning loss to the Univ. of Denver. Kjell Holmes and Connor Tweet teamed up for a very good pitching performance only allowing 5 hits for the game, but that was wasted when the Broncos defense let them down. Game 4 was against another divisional winner from last year, the always tough Univ. of Montana. Tyson Dellasilva had a complete game 5-3 win for the Broncos off the mound. Tyson spread 3 hits around and struck out 4 batters in a hard fought game by both sides, that wasn`t decided until the last play with runners in scoring positions. The 3-1 record was a complete team effort as several players came up big in key plays in all 3 victories. The Broncos were also honored by the NCBA last week by handing out both the Pitcher and Player of the week to Broncos. Tyson Dellasilva for his pitching and Richard Hoppe for his hot bat.
