A short handed Boise State team got 3 wins in their season opening series with Utah Valley University. In game 1 the Broncos hammered out 17 hits against the wolverines for a 12-5 win. Cooper Thomas, Richard Hoppe, Taylor Archuleta, Kevin Coburn and Scott Lyness all had a multiply hit game as Kevin lead the way with a 4-5 performance. With the Broncos short on pitching, Hayden Stauffer gutted out a 115 pitch complete game for the win. Hayden spread 10 hits around and struck out 5 in a game that featured several good hitters from Utah Valley. Kjell Holmes started the second game of the series from the hill and deliveried a solid performance for the Broncos. The 7-0 victory was the results of a short handed Wolverine team that battled hard. Game 3 on Sunday was a gut check for both teams! Nick Palta pitched 3 painful innings with his severely sprained ankle, leaving the game in a 4-4 tie. That’s when Tyson Dellasilva came in and picked up were Nick left off and finished the 9 inning game with a strong 6 innings. Tyson picked up the 11-7 win with the help of several key hits in the late stages of the game from the Bronco batsmen. Josh Pegrams double in the 7th put the Broncos back on top, and from there we used our defense to hold off the Wolverines. Both Richard Hoppe and Kevin Coburn had a multiply hit game. Great start to the conference for the Broncos!
