OFFENSE EXPLODES AS BOISE STATE OUTSCORES WEBER STATE 33-13 TAKING 2 OUT OF 3
Boise State won their 3rd consecutive conference series by outscoring the visiting Weber State Wildcats 33-13 to take 2 of 3 and move to 8-1 in Conference play.
The Broncos started the series off by taking a 3-6 loss. Balls were being hit hard all day, but were being hit right at the Wildcat fielders. Nate Venneri had 2 hits while Stryker Wood, Justin Spohr, Thomas Durkin and Brothers Mark & Max Scheiber added a hit each. Logan Marlin pitched well enough to win but took the loss on the mound giving up 5 runs in 6-2/3 innings while Brady Armitage pitched well in relief giving up 1 run in 2-2/3 innings.
The flood gates opened up in game 2 as the Broncos scored early and often to post up a 17-7 mercy rule shortened 5-inning win. The Broncos pounded out 14 hits as Ryan Cooper and Bo Houston each contributed 3 hits, 2R & 2RBI. Venneri & JJ Kunhle each had a pair of hits and 4RBI. Brady Armitage, Justin Spohr, Mitchell Allison and Cohen Hoover all contributed with hits, runs and RBIs of their own. Thomas Durkin and Jacob Lord toed the rubber for the Broncos.
In the afternoon rubber match, the Broncos offensive onslaught continued as they won another mercy rule shortened 5-inning game 13-0 to take the series. Nate Venneri (3×4, 4RBI, R) and Kunhle (2×3, 2R, RBI) led the attack with Allison, Spohr, Cooper and Mark Scheiber contributing with hits of their own. Tanner McDonald got the win scattering 2 hits over 4 innings with Jack Wilson coming in and striking out 2 in the final inning to seal the W and the series.
